World number one all-rounder Shakib
Al Hasan has been picked as one of defending champions KKR’s four foreign
players to play their opening game of the 8th edition of IPL against former
champions Mumbai Indians. Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir revealed it after the
toss. Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Morne Morkel are the other three foreig
players for them.
Winning the toss, Gambhir opted to
bowl first. He said, “I think we deserve to be playing at home, especially
after the way we played last year. We’ve got a good bunch of players so
hopefully we can turn it on this time around as well. Starting in front of
70000 people is going to be great. We will bowl first, try and restrict them
and chase it down. It’s a fresh wicket. Not sure what is a good score on this
surface. I think there could be some dew. The weather has been very unpredictable
over the last two days. Russell , Shakib, Narine and Morkel are the four
foreigners for us.”
Kolkata Knight Riders won the match
very convincingly by 7 wickets against Mumbai Indians in the IPL opener of this
year. Kolkata won the toss and sent Mumbai to bat first. Kolkata starts well
with the bowl. Morne Morkel gave first breakthrough in his first over. Then
Shakib came to ball and brought second break through for Kolkata. Shakib got
his first wicket by removing Aditya Prakash Tare for just 7. Mumbai managed 168
in 20 overs. Kolkata chased it down and won by 7 wickets with 9 balls in hand.
